Bedroom End-Table Makeover

I have a conundrum...and I need YOUR help...as you can see we currently have 2 IDENTICAL unpainted end-tables on either side of our bed...they are my next painting project....

I have always been a huge fan of mismatched end-tables...so here lies my question: when I transform these do I have a TON of fun trying to make them look completely different from each other....OR do I just transform them both to a new look but keep them as a matching pair?
Can't wait to hear what you guys think!!!!

I love mismatched side tables too, bu in this case, I would keep them as a pair. Except for possibly the knobs? COuld you have pretty feminine ones on your side, and more masculine ones on your hubbys side? THen they are sort of, same, same, but different? Just a thought!

Rebecca, I think one of the great beauties of a master bedroom is how it is a room that joins two people into one, much like a marriage. I read before a master bedroom looks best with symmetry and because of this I think painting these two tables similarly will invoke that symmetric, in sync feeling, that a marriage is essentially about. Just my thoughts though, either way they're beautiful and I'm sure you'll do a phenomenal job! All my best!

Hi Rebecca love the detail in these end tables and all I can see is white white white. Sorry not a fan of mismatched pieces especially if your going to put them back either side of the bed. I say paint them the same colour what ever it may be as always easier to on-sell a matching pair. I see that your bed in timber as well when is that going to get a coat of paint LOL. Have a good night. Sandy x

I like symmetry so I say keep them the same! What colour are you thinking of? Fun blog!

I LOVE THEM! Normally I'm a big fan of painting everything white. But I think they're beautiful as-is!!
If you wanted your bedside tables to be mismatched, you could relocate one elsewhere in the house?
I'm sure whatever you do with them will be fabulous. I just like them in their current state too!

so cute! I love the look of mismatched end tables too but i think you should just go with the same finish on both. I think they won't be mismatched enough, if that makes sense. can't wait to see what you do!

I would suggest refinishing them so that they are they same...or at least very similiar. It isn't that often when you get to have matching pieces...so appreciate the ones you do have. They don't have to be matchy-matchy, you can put slight variations in them...but keep them close. I hope that this helps!

I would do something really fabulous to both of them but leave them them as a matching pair. You can always make it less matchy with your accessories and even lamps...

I love your blog by the way!

i too love mismathched bedside tables but these are so detailed and pretty, i think a little white paint would go a long way and as another reader mentioned, just mismatch whatever you rest on top of them. :)

really pretty set! cant wait to see them.

I say paint them both white with some fun hardware. I think they would look nice against your wood bed. Maybe accesorize with different mismatched things on top. Diffent lamps, maybe?

Oh boy am I happy I did this post and read all of your input!!! You guys have swayed my mind and I am going to do them the same :) Thank you thank you thank you! I was originally going to do them different but I cannot agree more now with you guys and since it's nice to have a matching set I should keep it that way :)

Rebecca< I am a BIG believer in keeping the room interesting! Matchy Matchy<<<< this will create an aged look. You can also accents the edges with a copper glaze Acrylic paints work the best for this treatment. They come is small sizes and easy to work with. You can find acrylic paint at any arts and craft store I also use Sherwin Williams oil based paint. Sherwin Williams paint will not peel and has a beautiful sheen. Oil based paints tends to leave brush strokes. I would suggest using a small sponge roller instead of a brush. Buy a cheap one throwing it away when done is much easier than trying to clean up oil based paint. Remember>>>>the best thing about painting is "IF YOU DONT LIKE IT YOU CAN ALWAYS PAINT IT ANOTHER COLOR!! Be creative
