Mercury Glass Meltdown!

The other day after class I headed out to Ikea for some much needed retail therapy! I really wanted to dress up my dining room table area and so I went to the big blue and yellow store with a plan. First on my list were slip covers for my two leather end chairs...which one of my darling cats recently took his aggression out on ( I was so sad too because these leather chairs seemed to be the only ones the cats had kept their paws off of). Then I picked up some new curtains and headed over to look at the gorgeous candle holders they had in a polished silver look! I wanted to make a collection of them on my dining table but at $16.99 each I just couldn't afford to make a collection. Then I spotted these cool packages of 5 pillar candles (all different sizes) for $8.99. So I scooped up 3 of them and headed for home....
I didn't make it too much further before I saw Home Sense and thought I'd pop in to see if maybe they had some polished looking candle holders for a cheaper price. Well needless to say they didn't but what they did have were some mercury glass candle holders that I had actually been eyeing for quite some time now. So I purchased a few of them and made one last stop on the way home....the grocery store.
Heres where the meltdown part comes in. When I was putting my groceries in the car my new beloved candle holders fell out of the car and smashed all over the parking lot pavement :(

I was determined to fix this situation lol! So I pulled out the crazy glue and went to town....talk about the biggest and hardest puzzle I have ever done!

So  before I show you what my dining area looks like now, I thought I'd post a few before photos of how this room has evolved (keep in mind it looked even more different when we first moved in).

And here it is now.... it looks so soft and romantic in person! Can't wait to have a candlelit dinner with my soldier when he gets home!

The slipcovers were a near perfect fit even though the chairs were from Pier One!

Have a Wonderful Day!

What a gorgeous room! Definately soft and romantic, and light and breezy too!

Glad to hear you were able to put the holders back together!

I'm sure your soldier will love to have a meal with you there!

I had nearly the same thing happen! Sunday a friend and I went to Home Goods and came home with several mercury glass pieces- two were broken by the time I got home, despite being wrapped in tissue paper. I didn't try gluing them though- they were just too far gone. Your dining room looks lovely!!

I can't believe you were able to put that thing back together, it looks like it was really smashed at the bottom! What a difference the white curtains and white slipcovers make--white always seems like it will be coring, but it's really not. I like the larger piece you have over the buffet.

I am curious to know what type of curtains you have hanging now. They look so flowy and bright. Plus I love the table decorations. I am looking to do something like that for my mantle.

Rebecca, what a doll you are for just piecing your lovely candle holders back together without a hysterical outburst of crying right there in the parking lot...no, i. have. not. done that before, thanks for asking (lol)...the room looks absolutely b.e.a.utiful! I love love love all the white you're adding. Amazing how it's so cozy and romantic all while being cool and casual. And this post has helped me finalize my decision to return the striped curtains I recently bought for our updated kitchen and replace them with super long white linen ones instead. Always the inspiration, you are my dear....

The "after" pictures looks MUCH better than the "before"! You did a great job. Love the fact that the white slip covers tie in with the cutains and buffett. The photo above buffett is much better than the black mirror. Everything flows better and matches, without being too matchy-matchy. Looks great!! =)

LOVEEEEEE IT! You should seriouly be a profesional puzzle solver if you were that patient! It is going to be the best place in town for that romantic dinner~

Was Ikea a zoo? I really want to stop over there but the lot is always intimidating lately.

Thanks guys! I like the white in that space and hey the chairs are protected from my evil kitties now lol!
Rachel- the curtains are (Ikea)called Lenda they were $29.99 for a pack of 2...very affordable and they definitely dont skimp on the length or width of fabric like most brands do! Love them! I think they are the same kind Holly posted about a while back!

Holly-I noticed the super crowded parking lot too when I have been driving past to bring my mom and sister to the airport...but this time I went after class on tues (around 7pm) and it wasnt too bad at all....I bypassed the upper level and took the shortcut right to the marketplace so maybe the zoo was upstairs!!!

Ok, I totally did that same thing. I had just left Hobby Lobby with a splurge of a ceramic Fleur de Lis, and it fell out of my cart and smashed all over. I also sat there and glued it all back together piece by piece. Ugh! But it looks fine from a distance...haha. btw, your dining room is looking great!

Loving all the white. I have to say I much prefer the chairs slipcovered. They seemed to stand out too much before.

My cat knocked my fave candlestick off a shelf, and I got it together once already til he knocked it over again, i'm beginning to think he hates it, and it's not meant to be!

Your dining room looks fab!! If you are looking for candle sticks, have you tried Goodwill? I shop at the one on 170th Ave. and I have found some great silver candlesticks on the cheap there!

Hi Rebecca!
So glad I saw this! I have a very dark wood dining table, and want to buy the dining chairs I have been drooling over from Pottery Barn...but they don't offer a white slip cover. So glad to see yours paired with you table, because now I know I gotta have then! ;o) ~mary~

Hello from Ontario. I found your blog from LifeInTheFunLane and PaintingTheRosesWhite and became a follower. I love all the white in your dining room. I noticed you are in Canada, too, Home Sense comment. Too bad about the breakage.
