Hollywood Regency

I have always loved elements of so many decor styles and one of those happens to be Hollywood Regency. I tried to mix elements of this style into my living room with the chandelier, coffee table, and white accents. In my first blog post ever, about my living room, I received a pretty big response that I should paint the dresser on which our tv rests. Since that dresser wasn't built to hold very heavy things, it was actually a pain to open the drawers cause they'd just fall off the tracks every time due to all the movies and CDs they held. So in the back of my mind somewhere I was on the lookout for a new furniture piece to replace that one.

A couple weeks ago I went to one of our local thrift stores to search for some vintage jewelry to put on my feather hair pieces I sell. Low and behold I saw this great dresser out of the corner of my eye...I walked over to check it out and saw that it was only $15! SCORE!
Then I realized I had come by myself and have a fairly small SUV. The ladies at the store also mentioned they couldn't help...but I was going to be damned if I couldn't jam this thing into our car!!!
After much heaving and stuffing I finally got this thing all bottled up in our car and headed home to paint! (I'm pretty sure I could do the ship in a bottle thing now).

I decided to go with a creamy white, it has just a hint of greige undertones...
My first instinct was a Hollywood Regency look for this piece.....

But then I thought I'd distress it a little....and I LOVED it...but it wouldn't fit as well with the rest of the living room if I kept it like this.... (like my slippers?)
So I changed it back....and here it is holes filled and painted and looking much prettier!

The reveal!!! And I'm happy to report that this one has very strong drawers that can handle all the weight of our entertainment needs! (photos taken at night....sorry its a little dark)

The knobs I chose were actually called Regency Knobs....which I didn't plan....

Nathaniel disagrees with my knob choice...he wanted crystal knobs!!! lol I guess he's more into this stuff than I thought!

I cannot imagine a guy wanting glass knobs! I like how the ones you chose stand out and make you notice the detailing in the piece. Also, love those lamps!

That is one awesome piece Rebecca!!! I think you definitely made the right call with not distressing it, it is already dripping in old hollywood glamour. The knobs are stunning (and you can tell Nathaniel that you will find him a new dresser to put glass knobs on hehe).
This is by far one of the absolute best thrift store finds I have EVER seen. Great job~

I just found out about Hollywood Regency and am so jealous of your piece! It looks really good, and your finish is great. I love your lampshades and was wondering where you found them?

Rebecca! I can hardly type this fast enough and find myself thinking, "if I had this lovely's phone number I'd be dialing right now"... remember me mentioning a dresser I recently painted? Just wait until my crazy hectic weekend ends and I can finally share that piece... the similarities to this beauty you found are unbelievable. Really awesome job. The piece of furniture we use for our "entertainment center" was a buffet in it's previous life. Don't you just love creating new uses for these pretty pieces? :) p.s. I noticed (and love) those slippers before I even read your mention of them. Too cute.

Lovely and very glam! PS: I almost spit water out when I read the ship in the bottle line! Hilarious!

Breathtaking! And only 15 bucks! Even when I convert to Aussie dollars, its still a bargain! I am a HUGE fan of crystal knobs, but I think those ones work really well in your space, and on that cabinet. They definitely suit the style you are after with this cabinet!

Ooh, and in response to your question on my blog - we are hoping to go to Vietnam for our holiday!

Love this piece! Someday I hope to have a non-ugly tv stand...unfortunately I have much more pressing pieces on my list.

Love it! Hard to believe it was only 15! Did you spray paint it? It looks amazing!

Rebecca, I FINALLY posted about my dresser! AND, I hope you don't mind... I added a link to your blog at the bottom so others could enjoy our pieces and hopefully be inspired to find functional uses for not-so-typical furniture items. ;)

Thank you everyone! I think Nathaniel is starting to warm up to those knobs :P
Dayka...the lamps and shades are from our Home Sense. They were under $50 a piece too!
Leighuf~ I used a paint sprayer on this one. It made for a much faster project which was awesome! I didn't use any primer on this but I will next time cause it took a few more coats than expected :)

GORGEOUS, ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS! You have such an eye for seeing potential in pieces. I esp. love how now you can really see the provencal detailing in the legs/feet!

May I borrow some of N's design taste to make up for Mr. FC's lack thereof? Glass knobs indeed!

I love your design and your knob choice.. but I think it would look even better if you switched out the two middle knobs for the original ones.. i like the look of the gold rings. But the ones on the sides are perfect!
